It’s only been a month since Sony raised the price of the PlayStation 5 and now it’s offering temporary but no less enticing discounts on the console.
Earlier this week, a reliable rumour claimed that Sony would soon offer temporary discounts on the PlayStation 5 console, a month after the company announced it was raising prices in the UK for a second time.
The discounts have not gone live yet, but Sony has officially corroborated the rumour, confirming that its upcoming Days of Play sale will include deals on various PlayStation hardware.
They haven’t gone into too much detail (in fact, its announcement focuses more on the US than the UK), but on top of widespread discounts on select games, it has said that both the digital and standard versions of the PlayStation 5 will see reductions of upwards of £140.
Specifically, Sony’s post on the PlayStation Blog reads, ‘In select regions such as Europe and Asia, PlayStation 5 console (Digital and Standard) will be on promotion, starting at €399.99 / £339.99 / ¥65,980.’
At the time of writing, the PlayStation Direct store lists refurbished digital PlayStation 5’s at £339.99, so we imagine that’s how much you’ll be able to buy a new digital PlayStation 5 for during the sale.
The standard PlayStation 5 will no doubt be slightly more expensive, as well as any bundles that may be included that throw in an extra game or controller.
Even so, it’s a decent bargain, especially following the price hike. The digital PlayStation 5 is normally £429.99 nowadays, so you’d still be saving nearly £100.
As for the standard PlayStation 5, which comes with a disc drive for playing physical games, it’s now £479.99. Since refurbished versions are priced at £389.99, our guess is that will be how much new ones will cost in the sale.

Sony adds that the PS5 Pro will see a $50 price cut in the US, but there’s no mention of the UK seeing anything similar, which would be rather disappointing.
Its announcement also only lists discounts in dollars for the Call Of Duty: Black Ops 6 console bundle and various accessories, including the PlayStation VR2 headset and DualSense controller.
In addition, Sony is reminding UK fans that it’s introduced a new leasing service where you can rent a PlayStation 5 console. Fees have already gone down slightly at the time of writing. For example, a 36-month period for the digital console is priced at £9.95 a month instead of the original £10.99
We’ll be sure to update this article with exact prices after the sale goes live on Wednesday, May 28. It’s set to last only until June 11, giving you two weeks to decide if the console’s price cut is worth taking advantage of.
